As Chief Financial Officer, Suzanne Tobin has responsibility for the financial stability of the organization, financial growth and risk management.  She provides leadership, management and financial strategy, which is necessary to ensure the financial stability of the organization.  Her primary responsibilities included developing the financial strategy for the organization, improving and strengthening the IT infrastructure, and risk management.

Tobin has been with the Chesapeake & Carolinas affiliate since 2013, starting as the Vice President and Controller.  In 2015, Tobin, also a military spouse, moved with her family to Spain.  Upon her return from Spain in 2019, Suzanne resumed her role as Vice President and Controller, overseeing the Accounting Department and in July, 2019 she was promoted to Chief Financial Officer.  She assumed responsibility for the Medicaid, Medicare & Managed Care Organization Bill Department in 2022.  In 2023, she became responsible for the Information Technology Support Department and is focused on strengthening the organization’s technology infrastructure and increasing technological efficiencies. 

Prior to her tenure at VOA, Tobin held several progressive leadership positions in a variety of settings.  She began her career in Honolulu, Hawaii as a tax associate with Arthur Andersen and moved into the audit practice.  As an Audit Supervisor, Suzanne worked with non-profits, insurance companies, retailers and wholesale manufacturers. Tobin, then, became the Comptroller at Central Union Church, whose operations included an Adult Day Care, preschool and wedding business, in addition to the traditional church operations, and developed the organization’s financial strategy. After moving to the DC area, Suzanne served as a financial consultant for an internet start-up and several non-profits.

Tobin holds a Bachelors of Accountancy and a Master of Science of Accountancy from Wake Forest University.  She is a certified public accountant. Tobin is originally from Chicago, IL.  She has been lucky to live in Hawaii, Italy, and Spain with her husband, John, a retired US Naval Officer.  They have 2 daughters and live in Maryland.  She enjoys running, reading, and travel.
